You may have noticed, or not noticed more the the point, our lack of blog posts recently. Well thankfully since the start of the year the studio has been rammed full of work – so it’s been all hands to the pump leaving us no time for chat. We’ve made a pledge to find some time to update the site more – so here we go.
One of the things that we’ve been up to lately includes some education work at two ends of the spectrum.
Last month we were up at Strathclyde University giving a lecture on business start up and marketing to a class at the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship. The class provided us with a great audience and despite a chronic lack of preparation and lots of scribbled notes it went really well. Thanks to Dr. Jason Cope for inviting us along.
At the other end of the scale we were invited along to hold a class at careers day at St. James Primary School in Renfrew. There we had two separate classes filled with eager P7 pupils. After chatting to them about what a creative agency does we set them the task of coming up with a poster and also a TV ad to promote a chosen product. The groups then had to present back to us – acting out their TV ad in front of the rest of the class.
We were amazed at the imaginations of the kids – they came up with some cracking ideas that would put some lazy ad campaigns to shame. Their sheer enthusiasm was very inspiring – and it made us realise how much pure imagination and can-do attitude most people lose as they grow up. The kids didn’t ask any questions, or worry about what was being asked of them – they just fired right in to the task, with some really amusing and great work. Some of their straplines were truly excellent… and their idea to make fun of a ginger haired guy posing as a dodgy soft drink pusher to sell Irn Bru had us in fits of laughter, and was very very clever indeed.
So while we hopefully taught them something about what we do – they certainly reminded us that sometimes it pays to think like a kid… in short by not over thinking things and just firing in.
Someone please help me out with the meaning of this dream….
So… I’m on a space station on the moon with 2 rangers players, one of them is nacho novo, the other I’m not sure of. For some reason there are people in the lunar hub room that don’t take well to the stories the players are telling. I get the feeling they have been sent to the moon for wrong doings.
I look out the space station window to see strange wilderbeast type creatures running at incredible speeds across the surface of the moon and the look evil and hungry for human flesh.
We are all then taken into another room which is very light much like a decompression chamber similar in style to rooms in Space Odssey 2001.
I then realise we are being sent out on to the surface of the moon with these creatures without our oxygen helmuts.
I then put some kind of gel on nacho novos face – something I believe in my mind helps him breath in space – (oxygen gel on the face)
Scared of putting this stuff on my face a sneak out the room and into a toilet – I then creap quietly out the window onto a huge bonzi tree and begin to wrap a fireman’s water hose around the branches of the tree…..
This week, a few of us swaggered along to see It Might Get Loud at the GFT in Glasgow.
As a drummer, I wasn’t sure what to expect of this film about guitarists talking about guitars but it was indeed mighty fine. Jack White came across as a man intensely dedicated to music, whether that be singing, guitar or piano. The Edge surprised me, not being a massive fan of his style or U2 I found that I warmed to him after watching it. But the real star of the show was the legendery Mr Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin fame. When he cranked his amp up and fired in to a rendition of Whole Lotta Love the other two guitarists just looked on with awe – the looks on their faces was priceless.
Hello there. This is our first post of 2010 which is a bit shameful really, but it’s not due to the JamHot team still suffering a hangover from the festivities (honest) it’s because we’ve had such a mentally busy start to the year.
We’ve just launched a new campaign for fitness fanatics Edinburgh Leisure to encourage people to start the decade with a bang by becoming a Super Human – by becoming more fit and active so that you can use your new found fitness and energy to achieve all of the things that you want from your life, no matter how big or small.
The campaign consists of radio ads and promotion, press advertising, direct mail, in centre activity including life sized cut-outs and a lovely microsite which you can check out right HERE. The campaign has been such a hit that we’re now looking to extend it in to different areas. We’re proper chuffed about that!
As the end of the year (and the decade) approaches it’s time for some delicious annual report action. We’ve been working with the lovely people over at GGA to design and produce their annual report.
With some tasty french folding, embossing and some belter photography (that’s a professional term!) we think it looks good enough to eat. However we’ve been tucking in to some Jammy Dodgers that the guys from Radio Magnetic brought up today – so we decided against munching on the report. For now at least…
We’ve just launched Christmas at Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh’s Largest Shopping Centre, with an outdoor and press advertising campaign.
The campaign runs across various outdoor formats throughout Edinburgh as well as in selected print publications, a direct mail campaign and radio advertising. The launch has got us feeling all christmassy…. all we need is a bit of Mariah Carey, some mince pies and a cheeky glass of mulled wine – that would hit the spot.
We went to see muse last night at the SECC – they were mighty!
Amazing stage set and sound. Thanks to the lads at Tangent Graphic we also managed to negotiate our way to the front of the crowd and spent the second half of the night jumping about like maniacs. Brilliant!
Our good friends at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow have just launched an innovative playwriting competition. If you’re from Scotland and have an idea for a play then you could win the chance to have your idea developed and staged at The Tron as well as being streamed on-line to a worldwide audience of millions. The prestigious panel of judges for the competition included actor and director Peter Mullen.
JamHot developed the brand identity and applied it to a load of promotional materials and items including leaflets, posters, display stands, USB pens and a nice wee animation.
So if you’ve got an idea for a play get online and give it a go. You never know, it could change your life forever!
Every year, at about this time, I always decide that I should invest in some winter clothing… jumpers and the like. The mother of all winter warmers has to the the jacket, or coat if you so prefer. So, every year I think I should spend a bit of cash on a decent jacket – one that will see me through the whole winter. But, just as the winter sets in so does my indecisiveness… as I ponder whether to buy a cheap jacket or an expensive one the weeks and months pass – and before you know it we’re in to Feb. Having deliberated all winter I usually buy a new jacket just as the weather starts to get slightly better – making it a complete waste of time and money.
This year it’s going to be different, without a doubt. The indecisiveness is getting the old heave ho and one motherfisher of a winter jacket is getting purchased before mid November. This year I’m going to be prepared – no more walking along the frosty streets with only a T-shirt for protection.
