The Joys of Banking

I’ve just returned from depositing some cheques in the bank. The walk along the road was great, everyone seems so much happier when the sun is out. That is until you step in to business banking that is.

Bank Teller

Greeting the teller with a cheery hello I got a less than enthusiastic reply back. Presenting her with the simplest of requests I handed across my bank details and some cheques and asked to deposit them.

“How much is it?” came the reply.

“Eh… I’m not really sure” I retorted before she uttered the class reply. Turning shaking her weary head at the wee work experience boy perched next to her she said

“Guess that means I need to add them up then”

The young chap was not phased. He handed her a calculator and said “Its ok, you don’t need to add them up. You can use this.”

She shook her head, took the calculator and the proceeded to add up.

I’m telling you, if the bank had promoted these business brains sooner then I’m thinking that the whole banking crisis could have been averted.

Like she wasn’t going to add them up anyway!

Next time you take in a handful of cheques tell her not to worry as you’ve already counted, and that they amount to exactly ten million pounds.

Then watch the money come rolling in…

I had a conversation recently with a teller in a certain bank that’s mostly owned by the taxpayer. Ahem.

She admitted that the computer system can’t add up cheques, it has to be done manually before being typed in. Very strange.
